Which IOL to choose with Dr. Alison Early

If you need #cataract surgery, it has never been a better time to achieve your refractive goals with many incredible intraocular lens implants to choose from. There are several general categories for IOLs. Here I am reviewing commonly available lens technologies. If you have questions about a specific IOL, or one I did not include here, please comment or reach out to me anytime! ➰ Monofocal IOL: improved quality of vision (brightness, colors) and reduced glare. Anticipate bifocal glasses correction for best vision post-operatively. ➰Toric IOL: improved quality of vision, reduced glare, astigmatism correction. Anticipate reading glasses for near vision post-operatively. ➰ Extended depth of focus or multifocal/trifocal IOL: advanced technology IOLs that allow improved quality of vision, astigmatism correction if needed, and a larger range of vision without spectacle correction. Anticipate very occasional readers for fine print. ➰ Light adjustable lens: advanced technology IOL that provides improved quality of vision, astigmatism correction, extended range of cision, and for the first time ever, the capability to refine the visual outcome post operatively. This is an exciting new way to continue improving patient satisfaction and post operative outcomes! Each patient’s needs and preferences are different, so talk to your surgeon for personalized recommendations. Visual outcomes cannot be guaranteed for any given patient or lens implant.
