New Dry Eye Options- Miebo

There are many options available now for Ocular Surface Disease. Dr. Joaquin De Rojas discusses one of the newest options- Miebo. According to Bausch and Lomb, Miebo (perfluorohexyloctane ophthalmic solution) is the first and only prescription eye drop approved for DED that directly targets tear evaporation. The prescription eye drop directly addresses tear evaporation, the leading cause of dry eye disease. In the GOBI and MOJAVE trials, the main objectives included assessing the change from baseline at week 8 (day 57 ± 2) in total corneal fluorescein staining (tCFS) and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score for eye dryness. Patients reported relief of symptoms as early as day 15 and up to day 57, with a significant decrease in the VAS eye dryness score favoring the use of perfluorohexyloctane ophthalmic solution in both studies. Additionally, both studies showed a notable reduction in tCFS at days 15 and day 57 favoring the perfluorohexyloctane ophthalmic solution. The most prevalent adverse reactions associated with the use of this solution were blurred vision (1.3% to 3%) and eye redness (1.3% to 3%).
