Keratoconus is progressive
Keratoconus is progressive. Left alone, it generally gets worse. For years the answer was to wait. Contact lenses for as long as they worked, then a corneal transplant when they didn’t. Corneal cross-linking changed that. Riboflavin drops and UV light strengthen the cornea so it stops bulging, and the disease can be stopped where it is. Andrew Morgenstern, OD, President and Co-Founder of IKA, on why early detection matters: patients will still have keratoconus, and many will still need contact lenses, but the best possible vision is preserved when we intervene as early as we can. #keratoconus #cornealcrosslinking #cornea #optometry #ophthalmology #eyecare #
