Glaucoma Progression- The Advanced Glaucoma Progression Study

How reliably can we detect glaucoma progression over time? In this discussion, Dr. Kouros Nouri-Mahdavi (UCLA Stein Eye Institute) reviews findings from the Advanced Glaucoma Progression Study, where researchers followed patients for five years and compared rates of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) change using two OCT platforms. The analysis showed that SPECTRALIS OCT demonstrated: • Faster detection of RNFL thinning • Less measurement variability over time • Greater sensitivity in identifying statistically significant progression One advantage highlighted was the ability to manually correct segmentation errors, helping improve measurement accuracy for both clinical care and research.
