Foods for Vision Health- Dr. Shani Esparaz
Its Monday and we are starting off the week with a little #mythbusting! Dr. Shani Esparaz discusses some myths about food and vision. Most grew up thinking carrots were the holy grail due to it being a high source of beta-carotene there are other foods that are better for your #vision. Foods high in Omega-3 Fatty Acids can have a positive effect on your vision. There are three types of Omega-3's đź’ˇ Alpha-linolenic Acid (ALA) which are found mainly in plant oils and are great for #dryeye đź’ˇEicosapentaenoic Acid (APA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) which are marine based and a great source for the health of your #retina. These fatty acids help keep the retina working well and may protect against eye diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which can cause vision loss in older adults. Many studies have shown that eating more fish or taking omega-3 supplements could help reduce the risk of developing such eye problems Financial Disclosures: none References: Querques G, Forte R, Souied EH.
