This condition is characterized by the presence of small, white, calcium-containing deposits within the vitreous humor. These deposits are typically spherical and have a sparkling appearance, resembling tiny asteroids. Asteroid hyalosis is generally considered a benign and asymptomatic condition. It often does not cause any visual symptoms or impairment, and it is typically discovered during a routine eye examination. While the exact cause of asteroid hyalosis is not fully understood, it is believed to be associated with aging.
