Ocular Surface

Sometimes the first clue to an ocular surface problem is already sitting in front of you. In this clip from Episode 3 of Coffee with Nate, Dr. Nathan Radcliffe and Dr. Neel Vaidya discuss how diagnostics can help simplify what can otherwise feel like a complicated dry eye workup. For Dr. Vaidya, one of the most useful starting points is corneal topography. “If the topography looks perfect, I’m pretty confident their ocular surface is not a huge problem.” But when it doesn’t look right, that changes the conversation. Before moving on, he wants to understand why. Is inflammation driving it? Evaporative disease? Aqueous deficiency? From there, the exam and additional diagnostics help narrow the problem and guide treatment. The takeaway: with so many tools available today, the goal isn’t to use everything. It’s to know which diagnostics fit your workflow and how to use them to make the next decision.
