MGD and Meibo
For patients with meibomian gland dysfunction, fluctuating vision is often one of the symptoms they notice most. In this clip from Episode 2 of Coffee with Nate, Dr. Nathan Radcliffe and Dr. Sumitra Khandelwal talk about the role of MIEBO in helping address tear film instability and how they explain treatment expectations to patients. Dr. Khandelwal shares a simple way she approaches the conversation: the underlying disease may require ongoing management, but patients also want help with what is bothering them right now. “Your tears break up very quickly, and I have a drop that can help you.” For a patient coming in with burning, irritation, and vision that changes throughout the day, being able to connect the treatment plan directly to those symptoms can make a difference. The conversation also touches on something every #dryeye clinician has probably experienced: handing a #patient a long list of things to do without clearly explaining which part of the plan is meant to address the complaint that brought them into the office in the first place.
